The return on assets ratio of the company shows how well the company is in generating revenues from their assets. i.e.how many dollars of EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) they can achieve for each dollar of assets they control.the data shows Airline A has return on assets If we analyze the return on assets we will fin that the Airline A in FY 2000 is really high that it means the company is generating good revenues from the assets on the company but going on in the FY 2005 the ratio is dropped to 4.22 which is really observing for the company. Interactive Language Skills and Communication 2 Essay

Interactive Language Skills and Communication 2 - Essay Example 9). Management is, on the other hand, the process by which organizational goals are achieved. Therefore, the task of accomplishing the achievement of the organizational goals is the assignment of a manager. Fundamentally, important functions that managers employ in this pursuit have been universally identified. They include planning along with budgeting, organizing and staffing, problem-solving and controlling. A necessary disambiguation process will be covered in this paper in the subsequent illustrations provided to contrast the roles played by a leader distinct from those of a manager. In addition, the paper will elaborate on the interrelatedness of the two personnel’s roles in a smooth flowing of an organization. An elaborately well-balanced organization has been observed to be one which has a mix of leaders and managers in the organization’s pursuit of success. Important to note, equilibrium is ideally set when few great leaders influence relatively many first-class managers in the process. Leaders play a significant part in setting a direction, aligning people, inspiring and motivating them. The leader gives the employees (including managers) of a firm a sense of direction, aligns and elicits inspiration and motivation (Crossan, Gandz, Seijts, Stephenson, & Richard Ivey School of Business, 2010, p. 17). By so doing, the managers can take the managerial roles assigned to them with a sense of inspiration, direction, and more importantly motivation to do so. This influence, as passed on by a leader, can be contagious such that the behavior the managers exhibit is characteristically that of the leader. Consequently, managers can develop to become leaders who play a paramount role in the setting of an excellent working environment for their workers. The working together of a manager and a leader can be symbolically represented. For instance, a leader can be perceived as the symbol of passion, creativity and most importantly the

Orestes Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Orestes - Essay Example But both are in big trouble. A faction in Athens wants to execute them both for murder. They turn to their uncle Menelaus for protection, but they are betrayed. Eventually the god Apollo appears and fixes all of the problems between the people, but for some time it was very close. The themes of this play are timeless: family honour, the divine, the meaning of war. Nevertheless, these themes could always use some updating and this was done very effectively at the Getty Villa production of Orestes. To be honest, I was very impressed. The differences between this production and one done in ancient Greek are clear. To begin with, in Greece, the play would have been performed in an amphitheatre; in Getty Villa it was performed on a stage in front of a modern audience in modern day California (a state that would not have been settled back in Ancient Greece). In the traditional performance, the actors would have been all male and would probably have worn masks to show their different emotions. In the modern interpretation their costumes are made of nicer material and they are able to act in very innovative ways (some even using the Stravinsky method or method acting). Some of these things would have been seen by the Ancient Greeks to be improvements on the originalà ¢â‚¬â€for example, they would be sitting in the sun in California instead of in Greece, a country with four distinct seasons. They would probably get used to the actors not using masks, but they may have objected to some of the roles being played by women: ancient Greeks thought women were inferior and should not be allowed to act. This meant that men played the roles of women. It would certainly be strange to see a big burly man playing the role of Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world! One final point, the physical space of any theatre is vital to the success of a performance. I found the use of space at the Getty Villa production wonderful. The acoustics worked perfectly and the actors

Islamic Insurance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Islamic Insurance - Essay Example When the insured event doesn’t occur the insured person loses the sum invested in the policy and if the insurance claims are larger than the contributions then the insurance company is in deficit. The above three factors make conventional insurance â€Å"Haram- prohibited† in Islam. However, since safety and security is the basic human need in today’s uncertain world, therefore Muslim society needed an alternative to conventional insurance in order to secure their business transactions and personal interests. Islamic â€Å"shariah - code of conduct† is based on Muslim’s Holy book â€Å"Quran† and the sayings and traditions of the Prophet Mohammed, which preaches brotherhood and mutual interest in order to establish â€Å"just and equitable social order† in the society. Therefore, Takaful insurance was introduced to minimize the risk by mutual agreement which doesn’t exploit the interest of any party. C. TAKAFUL INSURANCE:  "Takaful is an Arabic word, which means â€Å"joint guarantee† or â€Å"mutual co-operative agreement†. Tabarru is the basic pillar of Takaful insurance which means charity or gift†, (International Co-operative and Mutual Insurance Federation, 2005). Takaful insurance is based on the principles of Islamic brotherhood that promotes common interest and solidarity. Both parties share the responsibility with a sincere intention to help the other in his/her difficult time by paying the defined loss from the defined sum. D. CHARACTERISTICS OF TAKAFUL INSURANCE: 1. Both parties trust each other and contribute their money into a common pool. 2. This paper explaines why the conventional insurance in not permissible in Islam, defines takaful insurance and further explores the problem by determining the key features of takaful insurance and its differences and similarities with the conventional insurance. â€Å"Takaful is an Arabic word, which means â€Å"joint guarantee† or â€Å"mutual co-operative agreement†. Characteristics of takaful insurance are as follows: 1. Both parties trust each other and contribute their money into a common pool. 2. The losses are divided so that the element of â€Å"gharar -uncertainty† is reduced and liabilities of each party under the losses are calculated according to the Islamic pooling system. 3. The policy should not contain terms and conditions aiming towards getting the benefits at the cost of risking other party’s interest. 4. Both parties subscribe to help the other through guaranteed compensation so that uncertainty is removed. 5. The insurance funds are invested in instruments that are interest free. The study concludes that the chances for the growth of the takaful business are very promising. Takaful products are available in many countries which meet the needs of the corporations and individuals. However, the biggest challenge is to overcome the shortage of resources especially, human resources, by providing training and development to employees about Islamic financial models and retaining competent employees who can contribute to the growth of takaful industry.

The effectiveness of Total Quality Management and Continuous Quality Research Paper

The effectiveness of Total Quality Management and Continuous Quality Improvement in the Healthcare setting - Research Paper Example This research will begin with the statement that as the healthcare industry continues to meet the challenges of escalating costs, high turnover in personnel, and continuing customer service complaints, healthcare has turned to Total Quality Management to address the issues and implement solutions. The present research has identified that Total Quality Management (TQM), also called Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), has been utilized to assess efficiency, quality of care, cost-effectiveness and safety issues. The researcher states that Swedish hospitals employed TQM and CQI when confronted with avoidable patient injuries, the wastefulness of healthcare resources, and public criticism of health care management and quality of care. Their use of Total Quality Management resulted in mixed reviews. Øvretveit noted the obstacles of costs and time constraints, especially on physicians’ time, that limited the comprehensive use of TQM. The notice was made regarding the hierarchies indwelling in hospital social strata, that of both the physicians and the nurses, and the disregard of management to institute real change. According to the research findings, TQM teams were set up, but the meetings were reduced as more pressing factors (patient emergencies) limited the meeting times and the efficacy of the process.   Often decisions impacting patient care bypassed the TQM process for a quicker resolution to an immediate issue.... confronted with avoidable patient injuries, wastefulness of health care resources, and public criticism of health care management and quality of care (Ovretveit , 2003, 6). Their use of Total Quality Management resulted in mixed reviews. Ovretveit noted the obstacles of costs and time constraints, especially on physicians’ time, that limited the comprehensive use of TQM (11). Notice was made regarding the hierarchies indwelling in hospital social strata, that of both the physicians and the nurses, and the disregard of management to institute real change. TQM teams were set up, but the meetings were reduced as more pressing factors (patient emergencies) limited the meeting times and the efficacy of the process. Often decisions impacting patient care bypassed the TQM process for a quicker resolution to an immediate issue. The Korean Hospitals have been most successful at implementing TQM as they have built in a TQM or CQI department from the beginning. Rather than making TQM a s econdary model for management, the Korean hospitals have embraced TQM as their total problem-solving solution. This resulted in Korean hospitals having created and managed TQM programs in 72% of their hospitals (Lee, 384). The major impact of this study determined that the climate of organizational change and the implementation of statistical data were the primary factors in the successful use of TQM and CQI (Lee, 391). Unfortunately, the openness to institutional change and the collection of statistical data were two of the most common issues reported as detrimental to change. Zbaracki (1988), in his article, â€Å"The Rhetoric and Reality of Total Quality Management,† states there are several places that the TQM implementation can go off track. The hospital setting has its peculiarities of

Book Report about Too Much of a Good Thing by Dan Kindlon Essay

Book Report about Too Much of a Good Thing by Dan Kindlon - Essay Example In the name of protecting their children, parents actually drag them away from facing challenges and fighting against failures. This really shatters their growth and strength and finally they loose their mental stability at times of depression. He says that many of them blame their parents for being too protective, and just because of this they loose all the chances of meeting new and varied challenges. In this way, the book also examines children’s attitude towards their parents. "What we want for our children is a perfect life devoid of hardship and pain," Kindlon states. "But their happiness as adults is largely dependent on the tools we give them, tools that will allow them to develop emotional maturity-to be honest with themselves, to be empathetic, to take initiative, to delay gratification, to learn from failure and move on, to accept their flaws, and to face the consequences when theyve done something wrong." The book stresses on the point that parents should spend much of their time with children discussing about their actions, desires and so on. They should talk to them freely and must always create a friendly atmosphere. The book also teaches how parents can reach out to their children, teach them engagement in rewarding activity, and promote emotional maturity and a sense of self-worth. The book, in my opinion is really a wonderful expression of the relationship between parent and child. The main focus of the author is on the parents, who according to him are too indulgent towards their children. Being protective and indulgent is not wrong but, when it is goes out of control, the children are really affected. Children do not have the opportunity of facing the problems by themselves. And as the children grow, they become more dependent towards their parents and develop less courage to face the world. Parents should leave their children to sort out things by themselves, so that they will be able to get more knowledge out

Understanding advertising media Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Understanding advertising media - Essay Example Capturing the true essence of advertising is an exigent task for there are varying factors that greatly affect its definition. One of these factors that cause modification in the meaning of the term is the media used. At present times advertising encompasses different avenues of communication. These include the printed media such as magazine, books and newspapers; visual media such as the television; the electronic media such the internet and other diverse form of tools that can attract the attention of the target market to a certain product (Richards & Curran, 2002).In the developing world of advertising and the business market, the printed media remains to be the primary avenue used. In the United kingdoms, the newspapers and magazines are established form of media utilized for advertising. The Guardian is one of the newspapers in the UK that receives a comparatively significant readers' share as compared to other newspapers and magazines. The Guardian is one of the leading newspaper s in the United Kingdom. There are factors that affect the competitiveness of this newspaper. The Guardian is known for covering news in a wide range of fields that is presented in a visually stimulating design that attracts the readers. This is due to the fact that the newspaper is being printed in colour which is unique for broadsheets. Another feature of the newspaper that serves purpose is the size of The Guardian and its printing process; the speed of production decreases with the size of the paper, thus, this size lessens the time needed for production of the Guardian (Hollis, 2005). Aside from the lay-out of the newspaper, the primary aim of this printed media is to impart issues that are pioneering and at the same time is of significant value to the target readers. Reaching and attracting a diverse population of readers is also important for any newspapers and media, thus, the Guardian made use of the advantages of the internet to be able to target the readers online (Rusbri dger, 2006). In the study of any form of media, attributes such as the target market, the circulation and coverage are considered. In the case of the written media, the editorial style is one factor that is deemed important. This factor mainly deals on the style of writing of a particular published work such as the newspaper. The primary consideration is the organization of the presented information in a newspaper. Every data imparted must be unambiguously constructed in prose or paragraphs and in a language that is considered formal yet not expressed in jargons that some groups of readers would not be able to understand. The literary presentation includes the construction of every story, the priority given to each story and the presentation of every titles and subtitles. May it be in the printed version or as seen in the web, the interface and the layout are important. Being a paper presented in full colour can be used to its advantage (Lynch & Horton, 2004). The aesthetics of the paper present ation can be used as a tool to attract readers whose readership and attention largely depends on being captured visually. The Guardian has 14.5 percent readers share compared to the other newspaper that is distributed daily. There is an increase which can only show that there is an improvement in the number of readers targeted by the newspaper. This is made possible although according to data presented The Guardian has the least volume sales. Thus, this can only mean that compared to the sales made in groups more individual readers purchase the Guardians (The Guardian, 2006a). In terms of readership on the other hand, a research that is periodically conducted by the National Readership Survey (NRS) revealed the following results. The result for the 2005 NRS is presented in Table 1. Based on the analysis conducted by The Guardian, an increase of 11.6% was observed in the survey results from NRS for the period of 12 months or one year.
